Infrastructure and Transportation Overview
Specialized infrastructure includes bridges, tunnels, roadways, water and sewer systems, security, antennas, and other similar components and structures. LPI has worked on many of these systems. In many projects, data from the field may be required. This will entail installation of instrumentation like strain gages or accelerometers on structural elements. Subsequent analysis of data can provide unique insight into the condition of structures and equipment.
LPI works broadly on transportation systems including rail, shipping, trucking, and marine. These services consider failures that have occurred, assessments of degraded conditions, and verification of adequacy of new construction. This work is performed on rail systems, including many large commuter systems, automobile and truck transportation, and ship-board systems. Large failures have been evaluated as well as day-to-day reliability issues. For failures that have occurred, LPI services can include sample collection, failure assessment, and analyses to determine the cause of failure. For the assessment of degraded conditions, LPI will frequently record data in the field during operation. Subsequent analysis of the data will define the condition and expected ability to operate of the equipment.
