Energy Generation and Distribution

Generation

LPI's engineering and technical staff has provided support and engineering services to both US and international electricity generating plants for over forty years.Generating stations have included nuclear power, fossil power, and renewable stations. For all these, LPI works on plants under construction, plants in operation, and plants being shut down.

Our experts have been called upon to investigate component or structure failures, provide engineering support for component improvement, and to demonstrate system operability. Depending on specific needs, clients typically collaborate with LPI through one of our service offerings or directly based on the areas of specialization and expertise of our staff.

LPI provides services through our main offerings of

Engineering Analysis, Fitness-For-Service, Materials and Failure Engineering, and Nondestructive Engineering. Specific support services are based on our engineering specialization capabilities. A sample of our support services include vibration analysis and monitoring, operability assessments, materials testing, stress analysis, system and component aging, fluid hydraulics, fracture and fatigue analysis, and many others.

Distribution

LPI has performed an extensive amount of work on distribution of energy. This is specifically the distribution of gas, steam, and electricity. In the area of gas distribution, LPI has worked on design and qualification of piping systems, specification of piping, and has responded to failures. "Failures" includes gas explosions and leaks that have caused significant property damage.

In steam distribution, LPI has supported almost all aspects of the engineering of steam distribution systems. This includes preparing specifications for hardware and software, analyzing piping systems, performing failure analyses, and training. LPI has performed many waterhammer analyses for steam systems and have performed tests and examinations of many high profile failures.

In electrical distribution systems, LPI has worked both in transmission and distribution of electricity. The work has included failure analyses following faults and conceptual design work for system upgrades.
